Collector Car Registration: Vehicles Over 30 Years Old

📍 Important: Reclassifying a 30-year-old vehicle as a collector vehicle is neither automatic nor mandatory. It is a voluntary process.

A collector vehicle is a vehicle that meets 3 cumulative conditions:

• Over 30 years old
• No longer produced by the manufacturer
• Its technical characteristics have not been modified

The mention "Véhicule de collection" (Collector vehicle) appears in section Z on the registration certificate.

Technical inspection rules differ according to the vehicle's GVW (Gross Vehicle Weight):

GVW less than 3.5 tonnes:

Technical inspection less than 6 months old is mandatory if:

• The vehicle already benefits from the "Collector vehicle" mention AND was first registered from January 1, 1960
• Or the vehicle does not yet benefit from the "Collector vehicle" mention

GVW over 3.5 tonnes:

Specific rules apply (inquire with a professional).

✅ Mandatory documents:

• Old registration certificate, or if you don't have it, a document proving ownership of the vehicle
• Certificate issued by either:
  • The manufacturer or its representative in France
  • Or the French Federation of Vintage Vehicles (FFVE)
• Technical inspection report less than 6 months old (if GVW ≤ 3.5 tonnes and conditions above)

If you are applying on behalf of someone else:

• Signed power of attorney
• Copy of the principal's identity document

Important: You must certify on your honor that the applicant has proof of insurance and a driving license corresponding to the vehicle category.
