W Garage Certificate: Temporary Professional License Plates

⚠️ Important: The W Garage certificate is strictly reserved for automotive professionals (mechanics, dealerships, repairers, importers). It cannot be used by private individuals.

The W Garage certificate is issued to the automotive professional who has applied for it or to their representative. It allows for the manufacture of temporary license plates with a W number.

Characteristics:

• 🔢 Removable plates: Can be attached to different vehicles
• 🚗 Only one vehicle at a time can circulate with the W Garage
• 🔴 Black characters on a pink background for the registration number
• 📝 Original certificate on board mandatory in case of inspection

Important: If the W Garage certificate is used for an already registered vehicle, only the W number must be used.

• Prototypes under testing
• Vehicles awaiting registration
• Demonstration to a potential buyer
• Presentation to the press
• Loan for test drive

✅ Used vehicles:

Only for the following uses:

• Technical tests related to a repair
• Transport between workshops
• Transport to a technical inspection center

• Vehicles used by agricultural cooperatives
• Vehicles in mechanic training establishments

⚠️ Attention: A vehicle under a purchase declaration can only circulate if it is equipped with W Garage license plates.

✅ In France: Circulation is possible throughout all of France. It is not limited to the company's department of establishment.

❌ Abroad: It is not possible to use a W Garage certificate abroad, nor to obtain an international W Garage certificate.

✅ Exception: Prototypes whose development requires testing in foreign countries. In this case, the professional must also be in possession of a certificate of the vehicle's technical characteristics.

The W Garage certificate is valid for the calendar year and includes the expiry date of the temporary registration.

• 📅 Validity: From January 1st to December 31st of the current year
• 🔄 Renewal: Possible every year in November and December
• ❌ After December 31st: No renewal application can be submitted. A new W number will be assigned

What to do with an expired certificate? The professional keeps their old certificate until December 31st of the current year, then destroys it.
